October meeting

Hello all,

Well, the first meeting back to Bonsor on October 15th was a success! About 30+ members showed up as well as a few Newbies. The protocols regarding checking for double vaccinations were followed by two staff at the bottom door of Bonsor. Robin and Rob did a great job of cleaning all the chairs and tables before we got there so the room began in a clean state.

Most folk were content to chat to others as they looked at the 20 models or so that folks had brought. It was fairly informal with Robin calling the meeting to order at 1930 with a short agenda. The results are as follows:

Next meeting is on November 19th. We will need some volunteers to man the desk at the door from opening to meeting time. If we have several we can make it short shifts of about 20 minutes or so. Please let me know by return email if you will be willing to sit with another IPMS member and check for double vaccinations. We will also sign in IPMS attendees at the meeting room.

Sadly, Bert Loehner passed away a few months back and his family have gone East. Bert was a keen modeler and did the odd presentation featuring his own visuals and photos drawn from his father’s wartime photo book.

The Christmas Party will go ahead with a kit raffle. A show of hands

Indicated that a majority of members will attend. A charge of $20 will be asked from those attendees seeking to enter the raffle. After every round, tickets will continue to be drawn until all the models are gone.

No food will be available and should not be brought in to this event as we will all be asked to mask up for the event. Brian Birk will seek a bevy of models from Martin Riehl with our membership being asked to bring donations to the November 19 meeting. George indicated that donations need to be unstarted ,‘Open Box’ or sealed models with all the pieces and decals present I know we all have such creatures lurking in our stashes.

The following are the 2020 Big Mouth awards and the date they must be brought to be judged.

  • January 21 being the Auto “Cobra”

  • April15 being Aircraft “SU-27”

  • July15 being Armour “M24 Chaffee”

November18 being Nautical “Tribal Class Destroyer"

The Fall show for 2022 will feature the same theme as had been planned for 2019, namely – The Battle of Britain.

There will be a special category for any kit that is 50 years old or older as 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the Vancouver IPMS.

Demos will again be solicited and we hope to have at least one a meeting. November’s will be a demo of a Waldron punch set delivered by Rob Brown.

There will be an appeal made for other presenters so consider what you might be able to show, demo or help with. Our membership of younger modelers and those Geezers returning to the fold have been seeking such input and it will be a healthy club that is able to provide ‘education’ surrounding modeling – be it paper, sci-fi, helpful gear, fantasy, and new products that make the job easier (and hopefully) better.

Egg kits are to be brought for the April meeting as a neat way to have some fun with the models and materials. Anything from Aircraft to Zeppelins that has been done in an ‘egg’ kit form.

Memberships will be waived until January 2022 when all will begin again save for those thirty or so who have already paid for the year that wasn’t. I do have a list if you can’t remember. Memberships will begin to be sold or renewed in January 2022.

  • I think that brings us up to date. Think carefully about:

  • Helping at the door before the meeting

  • Bringing in donations for the raffle to make it a success.

  • Offering to provide a short demonstration for the rest of us.

Brian
